The Lull Is Over

Post OfficeMy week started off pretty depressingly, but then walking into the day job always has that affect. Of course, the blocked toilets, broken coffee machine, and lack of any form of internal postal service did nothing to improve my mood. I’ve been waiting for the delivery of a small parcel that left Glasgow last Wednesday morning and it’s still stuck in our company postal system. It’s urgent because it’s my mobile phone charger – I left it at my sisters last weekend and now my phone is dead.

Things got better over lunch thanks to a cheddar cheese sandwich. Yes, I AM that easily pleased. I wrote almost 3k on GitG over lunch, which definitely helped, and asked a couple of friends to check over my synopsis for Slick before I send it out to agents.

After the day job (which was busy since I was the only one there), I decided to take advantage of the mild weather by tidying and weeding the garden before I go away this weekend.

I did some work on Stella before dinner; a few new hundred words and quite a lot of editing, and in the evening, although I never applied/queried any new writing gigs, things sparked into life with my contracted client. The summer lull appears to be over, as some interesting new work came through after some online discussions with my US-based editor.

I now have some article assignments to write for them, and we also discussed the idea of incorporating other writing gigs for them into this blog. It’s an interesting concept – they want to pay me to write in my own blog. What it means that while the content of this blog isn’t going to change, it’s going to become richer, and it will probably mean I’ll have to develop a new look to the site.

It’s an ongoing project so we’ll see how it develops. I wouldn’t have agreed to do it if it didn’t sound like fun, if it felt it took away from what this blog is about, and if I didn’t enjoy working for these guys – I do, and it’s good to be writing for them again.
