Sleazy Tax Robbers

Someone gave me a box of Roses chocolates yesterday morning as way of thanks for all the work I put into a recent project implementation. A small gesture compared to all the overtime I earned doing it, but somehow much more meaningful. A personal thanks from a colleague always goes a long way, but not something I’m used to.

By 9:45am the box was half empty.

As I already mentioned, yesterday’s freelancing news gave me a huge lift especially when combined with the progress I’m making with Stella 2. I got another 700 words down today over my lunch, a miracle when you consider the noise I have to contend with in the office.

In the evening I wrote over 1,300 worse to get my quote down for the day. Part of it involved a dream sequence and I frightened the pants off myself writing it. Seriously, I got so into it I was typing at about 140 words per minute and my heart was pounding. SERIOUSLY scary stuff!

It seems that just about every Westminster politician is involved in some form of dirty expenses claim at the moment. They’ve all been at it, claiming for everything from refurbishment of second homes to BBQ equipment, reinstalling “too hot” plumbing systems to pet food.

I kid you not.

Personally I’m not surprised that every single party is involved in the scandal. They claim to have not broken any rules, but it was they who set the rules in the first place and left it open for abuse. It’s a joke. I pay shit loads in tax and to think of these people using my money to pad their arses and live the good life while the rest of us are paying sky high mortgages and struggling to bring up kids, is an absolute disgrace.

I wonder what Alex Salmond is saying about it in private? He’s been strangely quiet on the whole matter other than a few “we are more transparent in Scotland” lines. I wonder why?

By 3:30pm today, the Roses were finished.

The new Madness single is released today. Dust Devil is available from all good record shops and to buy online. Check out the official video here, starring Jaime Winstone and Alfie Allen:
