Yesterday was the day from Hell. I came into work and felt like I’d been ambushed, such was the problems I fond myself embroiled in.
By half past eight one of the new systems we support fell over entirely. I went through an hour of major blood, sweat and espressos to get it all back up and running again –then came the fall out – which went on for the rest of the day. My boss wasn’t around, which meant I had to field a lot of tough questions. It was all handled admirably – I think. There are meetings today to look back and analyse everything that transpired.
Then, as if that wasn’t bad enough, our e-commerce environment flopped on it’s bottom, which meant another code red. For a company this size, an event like this can cost a lot of money not just for us but for our customers – I’m talking hundreds of thousands (in one case millions) – so there was lots more blood, sweat and espressos by the time it was over.
This was our version of Black Monday, except it was a Wendenesday, and through the stress everything seemed red.
By the time I got home around six I was pretty knackered. I tried to write but couldn’t find the energy even after a period of relaxing. I ended up going to bed early and watching a film – The Fantastic Four – really funny and helped me relax.
I did, however, manage to write 250 words of Stella 2, but that’s not to say I don’t have any good news regarding the new book – I HAVE A TITLE!
I had an inclination the other night that this might make a good title, and during my 250 word marathon last night, it made sense that it would be perfect. The book I am currently writing, the sequel to the soon to be published Stella will be called: BACCARA BURNING.
Now, off to work for hopefully a quieter day.
