Restarting The Race

I’ve written a grand total of 8,862 words of NaNoWriMo so far this month. The aim is to reach 50,000 words by the 30th. Now that I have a clean run with nothing standing in my way (except tomorrow’s charity event), I am required to write 8,000 words over this weekend and then 3,800 words daily from Monday onwards to the 30th.

It’s a tall order I’ve left myself with, and if I’d stopped to check my diary before signing up for this thing I might have held back. However, I don’t intend on losing. I never took part last year and the year before I fell flat on my face, so there is no way in hell I intend on not being at the 50k mark come one week on Tuesday.

Watch, as my word count starts to grow from this very evening, and the magic of my newest novel spills out onto the page. Watch, as I fill up more entries of this blog with tales of rolling prose and exciting ideas, as I let you in on little secrets and keep you from the biggies—just for now.

It’s not through lack of motivation I’m in this position, it’s through a traumatic week spent on a jury and then a few days away in Spain that did it. But hey, who said it would be easy?

As I mentioned yesterday, tomorrow is the 11th annual Beaujolais Breakfast (BB). Last year’s BB raised £2,963 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, which took the overall total raised at the Breakfast over the years to within a whisker of the £10k mark.

The BB day is a fabulous day out. We all gather in Staggs Pub in Musselborough (tickets are required in advance) to enjoy a sumptuous fry-up with copious amounts of freshly delivered Beaujolais wine. During the day there are raffles, an auction and various drinking games, and a live band, FC Ukulele entertain us with some terrific cover music with tiny guitars.

This year, for the very first time, the event is being hosting as a franchised event in synchronisation with the Aberlady Inn, which is holding a similar event. The word of the Beaujolais has spread!

I’ll be tweeting and posting pictures and videos of the day as it unfolds, all you have to do is follow me on Twitter. My ID is @colingalbraith.

My Friday video this week is a cracker and comes courtesy of Mr. Stephen Fry so it’s worth watching to the end. If you’re a fan of Masterchef, click play. If you cannot see the video, click here to watch:
