The Illustrated ‘Silly Poems for Wee People’ Edges Closer

The temperature was almost at freezing yesterday on the way to the day job. As good a reason as any then, to stop off via the coffee shop and warm myself up.

I thought I might use the time to run through the LIVING LEITH manuscript, but ended up writing yesterday’s blog post about my visit to The SKY Project instead—all on my iPhone, so not a bad use of technology in the end. If you missed it click here to read – it’s worth it.

Workload
I have that much on just now there’s only one realistic way of handling it all: take one task per day and work it through. Too often in the past do I try and tick several boxes off in the one day, but making small amounts of progress over several projects just doesn’t motivate or help in the overall picture. Making significant progress in one project in one day does, though, and leads to more regular ticking of the items on my list.

Silly Poems
Last night, therefore, I got down to the grindstone. First up was the job of inserting all of the illustrations into the manuscript for SILLY POEMS. The scans have all come out brilliantly, and the ones that are cut into each page provide no problem whatsoever; easy to manipulate and get just as I want, made all the easier on the Mac.

It’s the full-page illustrations that are the problem. Getting the text of the poems to fit in and display correctly was a nightmare. I got there, though, and the manuscript is now complete and came in at a whopping 120Mb (85Mb as a PDF). It needs a few edits as there are some illustrations that need a little but of further work on them, but that’s the hard part out of the way.

With any luck, I’ll be able to push out the new revision by early next week.

Today
Over lunch, I’m hoping to get another run through of LIVING LEITH, and the main task for tonight will be SLICK. I have to make more progress on that as I’ve slipped over the last couple of days. Then it will be Friday, and I’ll take that day when it comes.
